Architectural Design 2
Tutor :
Ar. Patmaselvi Paramarajah
Ar. Fadzwin Hashim
This subject introduces the ideas and methods of design thinking in analysis, abstraction, and synthesis, which are used in various design fields, including construction and architecture. The studio's main focus is "User and Context," which looks at the link between the user and the natural world. Students will participate in a number of studio-based exercises in this studio, including an analysis of architectural spaces and construction through precedent studies, as well as an exploration of form and space through architectural conceptualization. Finally, students will create a modest freestanding structure that serves user needs while also interacting with the surrounding environment.
Project 1
Diagramming Architectural Principles
Students should 'learn from precedents' in the first assignment by analysing their design aims and principles, which include not just site and contextual approaches but also the examination of solids, planes, lines, and frames in architectural design. The aspects of architecture and architectonics that develop architectural shape and space through drawing and creating are highlighted. Our objective is to examine how architectural and constructional components are used to create spaces: architectonics.
Project 2
Designing with Architectural Principles and Materiality
The second task will need us to investigate our conceptual and operational approaches in order to create a major architectural gesture(s). From the first task, choose one or more architectural principles. We will need to define the architectural principle(s) that we have chosen. Our objective is to investigate the possible meanings and implications of these architectural principles in the sense that they will influence two areas: generating form and crafting spaces.
Project 3
Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User: Atelier By The Stream
Students needs to create an atelier at Wawasan Recreational Park in Puchong for the final project. The building should have a built-up area of 100 square metres and be able to fit two people, including you and a family member, in a short period of time. The atelier needs to fit into the surrounding tropical site surroundings. In order to provide a memorable spatial experience for the user, the structure's design must clearly express its design ideas through the use of architectural principles, materiality, and constructability.
