Architectural Design 1

Tutor : Ar. Chang Yan Yee

This subject introduces architectural design through a series of studio-based activities and tasks. Students will learn about design elements and principles, spatial qualities, ergonomics and anthropometrics, and construction and materiality in terms of tectonics through these projects.

Project 1

Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles

With the title Expressions through Architecture Design Elements and Principles, this project aims to introduce a basic understanding of architectural design elements and principles, processes, and approaches in generating ideas, developing design, creating geometric 2D tattoo stamp, and transforming them into 3D form model.

Project 2

Structure and Body: Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration

This project enables students to build a 1:1 scale isolation building using various materials and construction methods in order to represent their unique experiences and feelings during the pandemic.

Project 3

Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles

This project requires students to extend Project 2's tectonic structure into a sensory space that anticipates and accommodates users' needs and emotions through their own reinterpretation of their Tectonic through a series of spaces, taking into account all of the elements learned in lecture class and previous projects.
