Architectural Design 4

Tutor :

Ar. Kenny Chong

In Semester 4, "engaging environment and community" was the focus. The projects involve studies of precedents on design projects that are responsive to the environmental conditions and sustainable issues. The design work should enhance the surroundings, blend in seamlessly with the site, and provide the community of users the greatest possible experiences. The environmental elements and poetics of the context within a complex spatial typology creates a design narrative that aims to foster a sense of community.

Project 1A

Site Analysis & Design Response

Students will visit the location, Kebun Komuniti Center P3KU in their designated tutorial groups to determine the tangible and intangible characteristics that define the site's character. Engagement with site users will establish the needs of the community at site. Students will collaborate with their tutorial group as part of the Design Response of the Site Analysis stage to create a new Kebun Komuniti masterplan.

Project 2

P3KU Kebun Komuniti Center

The project calls for the design of a P3KU Kebun Komuniti Center within the suburban neighbourhood of USJ18. At the moment, a nonprofit project for the employment of teenagers with disabilities is located here. Students will create stories that respond to the environment and community within the given context and explore environmental poetics of building enclosure design solutions that minimize environmental impact using a variety of complex typologies of spatial organization and a variety of passive design techniques.
