Sustainable Design, Policies and Regulation
Tutor :
Ts Dr. TamilSalvi Mari
This module helps students learn about environmental issues and gain a deeper understanding of how the things we build can affect the natural environment. Its goal is to teach students about the environment and how to design and practice things in a way that is sustainable. It also covers policies related to sustainable design and practices.
Project 1
Report
The aim of this module is to develop students' ability to actively learn by providing them with sustainability topics in architecture that they can explore and research. The goal is for students to gain a deep understanding of the subjects covered in this module.
As for my group, we have gotten the theme of "resilience of heritage building" and we came out with our report with a research question of "enhancing resilience in heritage building conservation through artificial intelligence (AI)"

Group Project
Reflection
In Project 1, I had the opportunity to expose myself into various aspects of sustainability, particularly in relation to architecture. Throughout the project, I developed a comprehensive understanding of the laws and policies that govern environmental protection. This not only expanded my knowledge base but also provided me with insights into the complexities surrounding heritage conservation and sustainability. as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) that we were focuses on.
Besides that, from this report, i have learned a lot and gained a lot insights from the articles reading. I have read more that 10 articles related to heritage building conservation and related to artificial intelligence. Lastly, we were working happily with each other and able to produce a wonderful report that we were satisfy with.
Overall, this project was an enriching experience that allowed me to gain valuable insights into sustainability, heritage conservation, and the potential of AI in promoting sustainable architecture. It was an excellent opportunity for personal growth, expanding my knowledge, and sharpening my research and analytical skills.
Project 2
Exploring local architecture or built environment responses to specific SDG goals and targets
This project explores how architecture can contribute to achieving Sustainable Design Goals. Through documented real-life cases, we aim to understand how the built environment can address each goal. Collaboration among designers facilitates dialogue and solutions for sustainable communities. The 17 SDGs define the challenges we must overcome by 2030, with architecture playing a vital role in realizing these goals.
In my study, i have identified the MyTOWN shopping center that incorporate sustainable features and pursue green certifications by pushing the sustainable initiatives. It also champions the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) and promote the slogan of "Embrace Sustainable Living: Together We Can Make a Difference!"
For this shopping center, i have identified that a building can play an important role in promoting the SDG 7 which is the affordable and clean energy by implementing different elements into the building itself as well as at the same time able to promote nd expose the sustainable development goals with the communities
Outcome
Reflection
In assignment 2, I had the opportunity to understand deeper into the United Nations initiative focused on promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Although I had been familiar with the concept of SDGs since my secondary school days, it was during this assignment that I truly comprehended the significance of each indicator and target, immersing myself in a thorough reading and understanding of them. As I carefully reviewed and analyzed the indicators and targets, I specifically selected SDG 7 as the focal point of my study, aiming to explore its relevance to architecture and the built environment.

By concentrating on SDG 7, I was able to expand my knowledge and understanding of clean energy and its profound positive impacts on society and the environment. Through extensive research, I looked into various datasets and statistics, uncovering valuable insights into the total amount of energy saved and other related factors. This research equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the potential benefits and significance of clean energy implementation.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that as responsible community, it is imperative that we actively cooperate with the government in incorporating the principles of sustainable development goals into our daily lives. By embracing these goals and integrating them into our actions and decisions, we can collectively contribute to a better future for both ourselves and future generations.
